"Again" is a vocal by American rock band Alice in Chains and the third single and sixth track from their self-titled 1995 album. It peaked at No. viii on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart,[iii] and was nominated for the Grammy Award for All-time Hard Rock Functioning in 1997.[4] The song was included on the compilation albums Cipher Prophylactic: Best of the Box (1999), Greatest Hits (2001), and The Essential Alice in Bondage (2006). A remixed version of the vocal was included on the box set Music Bank (1999).
Release and reception [edit]
"Again" made its radio debut in Feb 1996,[i] and peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart in the calendar week of July 6, 1996.[three] It likewise peaked at No. 36 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart.[5]
The vocal was nominated for the Grammy Honor for Best Hard Stone Operation in 1997.[4]
In the liner notes of 1999'due south Music Bank box set collection, guitarist Jerry Cantrell said of the song:
This guy, Praga Kahn, did three different mixes. One I didn't like, the 2nd i (Trip hop Mix) had horns and strings without as well many guitars or drums, which I kinda liked. Then there was [the "Tattoo of Pain Mix"], which was cool too. Nosotros put a couple out equally "B" sides in Europe. Personally, I never got used to the idea that you lot had to give some places extra songs and not others, it should be the same for everybody equally far as I'm concerned.[6]
Music video [edit]
The music video for "Again" was released in March 1996,[vii] and was directed by George Vale.[eight]
The music video was nominated for Best Hard Rock Video at the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards.[nine]
The video is available on the abode video release Music Bank: The Videos, and is the last Alice in Chains music video that Layne Staley filmed with the ring (the "Get Built-in Again" music video released in 1999 featured only archived footage of the singer).
Live performances [edit]
"Again" has been known to exist performed with vocalist Layne Staley 5 times. They performed the vocal for the first on the Television receiver bear witness Saturday Nighttime Special on Apr 20, 1996,[10] and also for their advent on the Belatedly Show with David Letterman on May 10, 1996.[11] The song was also performed during three of the four concerts that Alice in Chains opened for the reunited Kiss in late June and early on July 1996.[12]
A live performance of "Again" tin exist found on the live album Live (2000).[xiii]
Since reuniting with new vocaliser William DuVall in 2006, "Once again" has become a regular function of the band's setlist.[12]
